Fred again.. and Latin Mafia’s have released a 35-minute film, Under the Fabric, featuring an intimate, one-take live session recorded in an empty venue before the last USB002 show in Mexico City last year. The film, which was previewed to fans at Mexico’s Cine Tonalá earlier this week (20th July), includes "work-in-progress" music by Fred and Latin Mafia.
The action begins with the men sitting on the floor of the stage highlighted by the ethereal glow of visual artist Boris Acket’s kinetic fabric installation. A haunting vocal pierces the air, and the music builds into a mesmerising crescendo.
“I really adore the things that naturally happen when me and Latin Mafia make stuff together,” says Fred again.. “So right before the last show in Mexico City we recorded this one take of some of the songs we have been working on under the fabric.” The screening of new, previously unplayed collaborative material has led some fans to predict there is more to come from the artists.
Previews aside, the film is a fascinating glimpse into their collaborative process, while capturing the electrifying brilliance of Acket’s billowing installation, which rippled and moved in sync with the music above the crowd, creating a charged, immersive experience during the USB002 tour.
