High spirits at The Fringe

British sketch comedy trio Crybabies – aka Michael Clarke, James Gault and Ed Jones – have gathered ahead of the Edinburgh Fringe (which runs from 7th to 31th August, 2026) to promote the premier of their new horror comedy The Scaring, produced by Olivier Award-winning Francesca Moody Productions and directed by Jon Brittain.

The location for their promo shoot? The Greyfriars Kirkyard graveyard. The show's plot? “When a former priest checks into a remote hotel, he soon discovers that all is not as it screams (seems)”.

The event is set to be a big draw at this year's Fringe, the world’s largest performing arts festival – the trio are already known for their live Edinburgh Fringe shows like Danger Brigade and Bagbeard, alongside their BBC Radio 4 series. Their show, which will be shown at Pleasance Two at Pleasance Courtyard until 30th August, is one of more than 4,000 events planned for the festival, which spans comedy, cabaret, theatre, dance and music.

Other anticipated crowd-pleasers in the realm of theatre include Roleplay at Summerhall (also produced by Francesca Moody Productions – the hitmaker behind Fleabag and Baby Reindeer); and Mayflies: an immersive musical adaptation of Andrew O’Hagan's coming-of-age novel, staged by Grid Iron in a former metalworks venue in Leith. Big name comedy acts on the billing, meanwhile, include the Saturday Night Live UK star Larry Dean (Hellbent).
